For Surgical Patients
Our Surgical Process
Surgery is considered when it offers a meaningful opportunity to reduce pain, restore function, or prevent further injury. Our team guides patients through preparation, medical optimization, surgery, and recovery.
- 1
Surgical Decision and Education
Surgery is recommended only when it offers a meaningful opportunity to reduce pain, restore function, or prevent further injury. Dr. Stapleton reviews your diagnosis, the goals of surgery, the alternatives, and what to expect so you can make an informed decision.
- 2
Medical Optimization Checkpoint
Before surgery, we review your overall health and coordinate with your primary care provider or specialists as needed. Optimizing conditions such as blood pressure, diabetes, and other health factors helps support a safer procedure and recovery.
- 3
Preoperative Testing and Preparation
Depending on the procedure and your health, preoperative testing may include lab work, imaging, and a preoperative evaluation. Our team provides clear instructions on medications, eating and drinking, and how to prepare your home for recovery.
- 4
Surgery and Discharge Planning
On the day of surgery, our team guides you through check-in, the procedure, and recovery in the surgical area. We plan your discharge in advance, including pain management, activity guidance, and arrangements for support at home.
- 5
Early Recovery and Rehabilitation
Early recovery focuses on protecting the surgical area, managing discomfort, and beginning appropriate movement. When therapy is part of your plan, it is coordinated through outside physical therapy providers, as on-site physical therapy is not currently offered.
- 6
Follow-Up and Return to Activity
We monitor your progress at follow-up visits and adjust your plan as you heal. Return to activity is guided by your individual recovery rather than a fixed timeline, with the goal of helping you return safely to normal activity.
